ceiling height with lift

Post by Kurt Combs »

I have pared down my design of my garage from 36x30 to 28x32 and it may end up at 28x28 after my discussion with my contractor about his bid. My concern is that I will be using 28' long scissors trusses running the same direction as the car when on the lift. I had planned on the trusses being 32 feet long. I will hopefully be able to afford 10' walls and a 6 in 12 pitched roof. That leaves me with about 13' height in the middle of the lift and about 11' where the end of the car or truck will be. At the highest part of the vehicle, the roof, I will have plenty of room, but I am not certain about the hood and the trunk lid area. All my assumptions are based on the lift being at the tallest part of the garage. Does this sound acceptable? If not, I am going to have to forego the lift.....a real bummer.

BTW, the roof slopes toward the garage doors because that is the south side and I am installing solar panels to reduce my electric bill. This is the only way I can position the garage on the site. It will be behind a fence and not connected to my main driveway. I can hind my projects and the county won't be breathing down my neck, making me remove vehicles.
