Looking to buy a plasma cutter and Welder Need advice?
Hey guys I am in the market for a plasma cutter and a welder. The welder will mostly be used for simple body work repair. i have found several welders used that i think may work but I have no experience in welding (yet anyway).
Here are a few that I have found and input would be appreciated.

http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=551&ad ... 26&lpid=30
Plasma Cutter. I would like to use this to cut up a frame. Or roughly cut out body repair pieces.
http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad ... at=&lpid=2
Let me know what you think and what I would need.
Thanks guys

So buying a torch will be the best for cutting? I will do that instead.

Lincoln mig with gas are a nice welder to start out with my brother has had his forever and he dosen't have much welding skills and he can run it pretty good. At my welding class we use miller and I really like them. I'm more of a stick welder so I stick to the Lincoln 225 and my favorite is this big old stick welder my brother has in his garage but he dosen't mess with it because he can't stick weld very good

What's your budget? Miller has some great new MIG's out that have an auto-set feature which is good for learning to weld, some of their machines even have what they call an auto-link feature which will work on 110 or 220 without having to open up the machine. Their catalog is online http://www.millerwelds.com I do welder repair and you're ok with miller or lincoln but its my experience that miller has much better service and gives you better answers than lincoln. I would stay away from no name brands like the ones at harbor freight. As far as plasma cutters those little Hobart's aren't bad if you just want to do sheet metal, the smaller hobart's are made by miller. Good luck

I learned that lesson the hard way. I bought a harbor freight 90 because I just wanted one to pratice with then I started welding school and now I'm a way better welder and I can't stand the POS harbor freight. Also they break really easy I've already had to make a new gun for it.oldschoolrods wrote: I would stay away from no name brands like the ones at harbor freight.

I suppose I know my mig can't make a weld worth a darn. The next welder I buy is gonna be a Lincoln AC 225 Stick Welder.1971fordcustom wrote:FordTruck wrote:I learned that lesson the hard way. Well the most welding I plan on doing is some sheet metal repair, and maybe reinforcing the front cross member after I cut 2" out of it. Will a 110 Lincoln be enough? I have a line on one for about $300 with a 2ft argon bottle. Thanks all for your input!

I think you will be very happy with that machine. If it doesn't come with an owners manual and you need one, they are all available on millerwelds.com
