I few weeks ago I bought a 72 f250 Explorer special, its got a little rust so its more of a work truck then a canidate for a full restoration. Any the battery is getting a charge from the alternator probably due to funky wiring. I replaced the alternator and the regulator using parts from O'riley's. Standard 60amp ultima alternator and new electronic regulator with classic hook ups. Since that didn't fix the issue it must be a wiring problem. I dont want to buy a whole new harness if its really just a matter hooking up wire a to point b etc.
So the questions are what is the mystery box and whats it doing? and what should I do next? I have tested wire 1a for continuity and its solid.

Now ive done goofed as well I burned up the black and red striped wire from the alternator. Now she wont start. I get the click sound from the starter and nothing else. battery is reading 12.7 (it was freshly charged inside before I goofed)

If it's original, the black/red wire from the alternator is the ground from the alternator to the voltage regulator. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... _quick.jpg Check the connection at the alternator to see if that has a "G" embossed on the case. That's a primary circuit so if it's fried you'll get nowhere. Might have fried you're new VR in the process. Fix the wire first and try again.

I got her to start again turned out to be some loose connections on the starter. I'm bringing her in to my favorite shop to install a 3g alternator at 130 amps, as recommended on another forum. Unless any one has a reason why thats a horrible idea haha.

That box looks like a battery charging isolator. Prob ran to the back for charging the battery in a cabover camper or a trailer
