On a 69 F350 crewcab?? Good luck...haha. No, I will deal with what is there, and fix it once we figure out the exact problem. :)

Thanks though!

Just to update this thread, there is light ahead and hopefully someday soon there will be some nice updates here. Took the truck over to the frame shop yesterday and they are going to look at it early next week. So I should know the extent of the problem and have it fixed. Once that is done, we will begin prepping it for paint.

In the meantime, I just ordered my carpeting from stockinteriors.com, I ordered a large roll of Zillamat sound deadener, I ordered a power doorlock kit with keyless entry, and I ordered a power window kit from A1 Electric. Now I need to figure out exactly how I am doing the seating in my cab so I can figure out how many more seatbelts to order from SeatBeltPros.com, and I need to get my 2nd gas tank (frame tank) to the shop to get boiled out and cleaned up for re-install. I also should be picking up some vinyl paint soon and will try it out on my new seats. That will probably be the next photo update here and should be really soon. :)

Ok, been a few months, but REALLY close to having some photo worthy updates. In the meantime, here is where I sit...

The frame had a pretty good tweak in it on the drivers side (caused when we took the service bed off and it got hung up on a weld). So the frame shop was able to straighten it up and now the body lines all line up great. I also replaced the rubber cab mounts while it was in the shop since the original ones were toast.

The truck is very close to going in for paint. I was going to do all the prep work myself, but came into some unexpected money and just decided to get the whole truck done by the shop. So they are going to do all the prep, and a full paintjob inside and out. I have seen their work and they do pretty good work for the price. It wont be a show quality paint job, but it will be a very nice driver job. Only things left to do before I send it to the shop is pull the cab side of the AC and the heater box. I need to figure out exactly where my cab roof lights are going to go and drill those holes, drill the holes for my west coast mirrors, and then a few under-the-bed modifications (new truck style spare tire holder with hoist, weld in trailer hitch, rear bumper mock up, re-install repaired under cab gas tank) so I dont have to take the bed off after paint, and it will be ready to go.

I was going to use vinyl paint to do the custom blue seats I have for the front of my crew, but due to the unexpected money, I decided to take them in and have them recovered in new vinyl. They needed a couple of repairs to the foam anyway, so its better this way. Ill post photos when I get them back.

I also scored a in-bed diamond plate tool box for the truck and it is one of thte low profile ones that sit below the height of the side walls, which is what I was looking for but could never find. Got this one for $50 at a yard sale by my house. Only thing I needed to do to make it fit was notch out part of the fill tube cover inside the drivers side of the bed. Ill post pictures of the toolbox too. Didnt think to take any.

In the meantime, a buddy of mine took these photos when CNM67 and I were working on notching the fill cover. I thought they were humorous and just shows how dumb I can be sometimes... Good thing CAL OSHA is not allowed in my garage!!

Well, I took some shots of the toolbox I picked up and how it is going to sit in the truck. It is a little off center due to the filler neck on the driver's side, but I don't mind because for the most part, it wont be seen unless by a lifted truck. It sits below the sidewalls making a bed cover a possibility if I want to go that route...

And here is how the truck sits with all of the cancer removed, new metal welded in, and all body work done. All the glass is out, the door innards are out, the cab is stripped, the badges and emblems removed, and all the rubber and chrome off the truck. All it needs is a good sanding, prep, and then paint. I cant wait to drive this thing on a regular basis!!

Thanks Mike...

A couple of little updates, but I like em, so figure I would post them... My crew has the exhaust running out the passenger side due to the under cab tank, and has a wicked looking old school double flare tip exhaust that I love. But what little chrome was left on them was very pitted and then surface rust covered the rest. I went ahead and sanded them down, cleaned them up, and then shot them with high heat flat black engine paint. I fricken LOVE the way they came out. I almost don't want a nice paint job because I love the old school look and weathered look. But the green and white panels just aren't cutting it and have run their course with the old lady. Anyway, here are the old school tips that are freshly painted with the old school grit showing through...

Image

And then a year of hunting for a part I have wanted for this truck FINALLY rewarded me. I found some 1967 F350 hood badges. I mean, the 67 F100's are hard enough to come by with the F250's being even more rare. The one year only F350 badges were a nightmare to find, but again, I love the old school look and the reflector look just doesn't suit me. I had polished up my pitted 69 F350 badges and painted them, but these 67's just look SOOO much better and the smaller size just looks great too:

Image

Anyway, that's it for now... Just finished up some welding on the floorboards, and am painting the insides of the doors with rubberized coating to lessen noise and prevent rust. Still moving along towards getting it ready for paint.... Soon... Very soon...

Looking good, man! Congrats on the progress! I can't wait to see this beast all one color. Show quality or not, I'm sure it'll look sweet.

I do have one question I'm hoping you can help with, can you explain the term "unexpected money"??

Just kidding man, good for you!

Apparently an old insurance policy I have pays you back a chunk of change if the policy is not used in 20 years. Well, the 20 year mark came up and that chunk of change showed up in the mail. It was a pleasant surprise and since I considered it "free money", it all went to the truck. :)

A couple more minor updates...

Got the under-cab tank back from the shop. They boiled it, cleaned it, soldered it (had about 8 pinhole leaks they found) and painted it... Just like new and ready to go back under the truck:
Image

CNM67 had an old school looking square wrap-around bumper on the back of his truck that he didn't want. We found him a smaller bumper until he goes with a roll pan later down the road. But I love this bumper so I sanded down all the old white paint and rust and then painted it in Ford Argent Silver:

Image
Image

And then here is it mocked up with new plate light and my old school plate on the back (with the period correct red month sticker and an original 69 registration sticker). I cut some metal and will run the current registration sticker off to the side.
Image

I also finished fixing the passenger side floorpan and coated it in spray on rubber. It will be covered in Zillamat and carpet once the truck is done being painted, but for now, the rust has been taken care of. Going to take the bed off tomorrow and see about maybe getting the spare tire holder welded in (got it from a 2000's Dodge Dakota from the pick-a-part) and the trailer receiver welded in. Need to get the bumper mounted first so we can see exactly how everything is going to line up. Dont know if we will finish, but we will at least get a look at it and see what all we need to do.

Well, got the bumper on so we can figure out where to weld everything behind it, but decided not to take the bed off yesterday and start on the fabrication just yet. Have a few other things we wanted to tackle yesterday first. So the bed will come off maybe next weekend. In the meantime, the bumper fits pretty well.
Image

But while taking out the AC unit from the cab yesterday and unbolting it through the firewall, I started really looking at the 460 under the hood and seeing just how poorly the previous owner put things together.
Image

I have had a list of things I have wanted to do to this motor since the day I got the truck, and besides the upgrades on that list, it also included cleaning and painting it. I was not originally going to pull the motor at this time, but I decided that since I am sending it off to paint, I am not going to want to pull it after I have the truck painted (and painting under the hood was also on my list). So now, I am going to pull the 460 and the C6 tranny before sending it off to paint. That way, the engine bay can get painted too (going black in there) and I can work on the motor and tranny outside of the truck while the truck is away. Going to get a performance manifold, new cam, new timing set, and a few other goodies for this beast while it is out. I will also be cleaning and painting the motor and tranny. New gaskets and new plumbing are also on the list. I figure with the amount of time the truck will be away (4-6 weeks), I should have enough time to weekend warrior the motor so it looks good when it goes back into the truck.

My firebird is a little pissed off though as with the motor and tranny out, the bird will be evicted from the garage for the length of time that the motor and trans are out of the truck. Thats okay, probably wont rain in SoCal for another 4-5 months and I can break out the ol' car cover while she sits in the driveway.

HA! So true, so true. I think many of us here can relate to that. Been hit several times by the "well, if I'm going in this far, I might as well..." Yep, happens over and over. That's what this board is for, to push you through those "extra tasks" and make sure they don't bog you and the entire project down!!

But yeah, I probably would've made the same call. Not wanting to have a nicely painted and finished truck, only to pop the hood and have a "huh." moment.

Bumper looks great, love the vintage plate!
