Well, taxing a company never does any good, they just past the cost on to the consumer, (Us).
But his ideas of relaxing the environmental regulations and temporarily not adding to the strategic reserves so that oil can be added to the general supply should help a bit. They're just band-aids for the problem though, like I said before, drilling for our own oil is the only solution that will gain us significant and long term relief.

Jeez, I don't like paying any more for anything than I have to but supply and demand is just that. The oil companies profit margin is the same as it's been traditionally, 10-12%. Of course they've had record profits if usage is at an all time high. The oil companies make less profit on a gallon of gas than the government, as a whole, receives in taxes from that same gallon. I'm no fan of big oil but WE have more control over reducing our consumption than relief from any government program can provide. Until we use less or other sources are found we'll continue to pay the higher prices. Sitting here whining about it reminds me of all the New Orleans folks waiting for someone ELSE to save them. Sorry, I'll humbly step off my soap box now.

yeah exactly. dont rush out and fill your tank every five minutes. but don't run yourself low either. when gas is rising its because you panic and fill up before it goes up another 2 cents. slow down don't panic. thats what causes the demand.

Bush isn't stepping it up, he is an oil man. Taking away a 2 bil credit after the oil companies have already pocketed hundreds of billions is kind of a joke. This should have happened long ago.

Interesting that the only member who could speak freely is the one that's retiring lol Indicitive of the society we live in.

I've read some intersting stories about peak oil production. They used a formula that decades ago correctly predicted the peak production of the u.s. and the crunch of the 70's. When applied to the oil reserves it predicted hitting peak within 10 years and a drop after that. I know we can find more oil, but at the rate China is expanding, it'll be a mute point.

We need to maximize oil production here to stop us from needless wars with religious fanatics in the nearterm, because they happen to be sitting on what we need. We need an elected official to grow a spine and tell the enviromentalists that nuclear power is needed, to tell Americans that conservation is key, and finally, put as many resources into alternative fuel research as the dirty #@#'s put into their pots for election.
Bumpless for now...
