I'm researching purchase of a Lincoln SP-175 Plus or a MillerMatic 175 MIG welder. I'm seeing prices on the Internet of about $690 to $750 without a cart or gas bottle. Any recommendations for a better price? Thanks.

re: Welders
I bought a Miller DVI which is rated at 175 amps. Been real happy with it. Lincolns are good. Seems Miller is looked at as a top of the line model from the message boards i've seen.

If you can come up with the extra money, I'd recomend the Miller DVI. It runs off 110 or 220. I've been surprised how well the DVI works on 110. Even though I have 220 at my house, I wanted the versitlity to use 110. I've had the chance to use both the Millermatic 175 and the DVI. It seems the DVI is easier to use. That was also the consensus of the 2 instructors of a welding class I just took.

My Lincoln 175HD is the greatest thing made for the money. Like 599 for it at HOme Depot. A cart will cost you between 50-100. IT comes with everything work with gas or no gas.

re: Welders
Or you can do like what me and my dad did in practicing welding by making a cart for the welder!!!

re: Welders
I had a LINCOLN mig welder and loved it.
I still have my trusty ol' LINCOLN stick welder.
MILLER manufactures fine welders. I wouldn't mind owning one.

I used a syncrowave tig at work since they came out, absolutely great welder for aluminum, but for steel or stainless they all weld about the same, as for migs. Miller and Lincoln are both good, I have a snap-on mig/tig 110V which I think are made by ESAB and works just fine and anything heavy I have a Honda 150A Welder/generator for stick welding. The bottle (80#) if you buy it and not lease it will set you back a couple hundred bucks.
