setting up an oil pressure gauge

Post by bigman78 »

So I bought an aftermarket 3 gauge pod. One of the gauges is an oil pressure. So my question is where do I hook up the small plastic hose that it came with? Its got a few different sizes of hook up peices.

It should hook up in the same place as your stock oil pressure sender.

Fortunately your hose doesn't have too far to go, iirc the 429 sender's on top of the back of the block behind the intake next to the firewall. 1/4" x 18 thread for the sender hole, the fitting should just screw in w/ some teflon tape. The other fitting goes on the gauge. Follow the instructions for inserting the ends of the tubing into the fittings, I believe they are compression style. Don't kink the teflon tubing and give it a little slack. Run it thru the firewall grommet used by the engine wires and make sure it doesn't rub or catch on anything like the throttle linkage.

If you use plastic tubing, make your cuts with a good razor so they come out straight and clean.

These photos show both the electric and mechanical hooked up together and the stock electrical only. If you want to run only your new gauge, just screw in your plastic line in place of the stock oil pressure sending unit.

The incident with the plastic line becoming separated, on the passenger side of the firewall I might add was pretty humorous. The PO had some pretty shabby wiring done under the dash. It wasn't sheet metal that cut the line . I was going to a staff meeting and hit a rise in the road , running late as ususal, had a wire short and burn and fell across the oil pressure line burned it in half . within about 25 seconds thought I had wet my self felt warm and fuzzy down my left leg and foot .Ruined a brand new pair of Wrangler reatta's (freshly starched I might add) and a $100.00 pair of Polo Chucka boots . Time I could turn off the key it was too late. Didn't loose enough oil to burn up the damn motor tho.Oil pressure gauge hasn't worked since ,but when she fires next time she'll be reading oil pressure through copper

So is this what you guys are talking about? It sits behind the block and down a little. If so, does it screw off and thats where I screw in the new fitting? Thanks for any help.

Yep, that's it!

Don't grap it and start turning, it'll break. Find the right size open-end wrench down where it threads in.
