horn relay

Post by F2FIDDY »

What does a relay actually do. I need to completely rewire a new horn all wires including relay are melted. Can I use any 12 v relay. I could use a simple wiring diagram for the horn if anybody has one.
Thanks

A relay uses low current at the design voltage to switch high current at different voltages.

A car relay would have a 12 V coil and 12V or more volts and 30 or more amps on the contacts.

# 30......12V IN
# 85......Ground / ground activation
# 86......12 v switched /power activation
# 87.......12v (load ) out

normally, in our trucks, the 12v out of the column is what activates the relay, therefore, pin 30 hot from the battery. pin 85 to ground. pin 86, 12v from column (signal), and pin 87 to horn

your mileage may vary, prices slightly higher in the west and south, objects in mirror are closer than they appear, just my .02
