LMC Bumpers anyone?

Post by Comet »

Ok, I'm looking to buy a set of bumpers. Dennis Carpenter has a set, but it is more expensive and does not offer a 5 yr. warranty like LMC does. Mac's is closer to LMCs price, but no warranty that I can tell. They all appear to be imported (this is for my '61 BTW, but my question applies to all). I have not had good luck with LMC quality, but I've only ordered from them once. I returned about 1/2 of the stuff, the rest was ok. Anyway, with the warranty I was thinking maybe it would be ok to go with LMC. I would like to hear from anyone that has long term experience with their bumpers.

Did you have bumpers on that 61? I don't remember. Why not have them straightened and chromed or maybe even powder coated? At least you know they're US steel.

:yt: that would be the best way. Even find them in a boneyard.

Bryant could probaly inform you all about what options there are for powder coating.

I thought about chroming them, but at $450 I'm looking at other options. I know chroming would be the best, but it's going to sit in my garage most of the time, so weather shouldn't be too much of a concern.

Comet, did you ever get your bumpers sorted out. I have bought one bumper from LMC and one from CCG Truck. CCG was 129.95 plus 30.00 shipping. I haven't had a chance to install or really look at the CCG one or really look at the quality of the LMC one. It is on the front of my 68 Ranger in the photos and it looks good for a driver. It seems someone mentioned the back side of the bumpers rusting up, but that could be stopped before it was installed on the truck.

What did that process end up costing you? If you don't mind my asking.

I'm not really sure sure because, 1> I haven't gotten it back yet, and 2. I took in a whole bunch of stuff. The lot was over $4k :(
I seem to remember them saying the bumper was around $400 including straightening. This shop is really good though. They have done the chrome on 2 Concours d' Elegance winners at Pebble Beach, if that gives you an idea.

Thanks for the info. I am sure you will keep us posted with pictures when you get it all back. When I go to do my crew, I want to know where to spend the extra for the best product and this sounds like the bumpers, etc. will be one of them. My LMC bumper is good for my driver, but you can tell it's not like the originals. Thanks, John.

No problem. Hey, now that the mayhem over your truck renderings has settled down, how's about looking at the drivers side wheel and moving it outboard a bit??? PLEASE!. I would love to make it my avatar, but been waiting for the update. Thanks man, they're really cool!

Will one of these work, Comet? They are the same toon, just different sizes.
