SCORE !!! FREE Lincoln Welder
My father in law gave me this
Closer Look
He bought this in 1985 to weld a car frame together. USED IT ONE TIME !!! It has been in his shop ever since. The bag of rods says "Lincoln Sample Rods" so I assume they came with the welder.
My wife said he was giving me a welder. Little did I know I was getting one that could weld a ship together!!!!

Those are OK welders. You're not going to weld a ship together with that. Awesome deal for free though. That's a home hobby style welder. They're only AC and like 20% duty cycle or so. Great for a home shop though as long as you don't ever need to run DC or carbon arc.

Got no idea what DC or carbon arc means. I do however know what free means !!!!!! I'm that guy who'll take anything that is free.averagef250 wrote:Those are OK welders. not bad, i like the lincoln welders, and that model is what I started my first steel fab shop with. and I still use it, with a spool gun the only thing thats ever gone wrong is the cooling fan dies every 10 years. those units were built like a tanks. and fans cost what $15.
millers suck whey are very hard to set up ( unless you got digital reads outs)

How are you running a spool gun on an AC constant current power supply?
Wire feed is only possible with constant voltage DC. Stick/TIG and wire feed are two entirely different welding processes and do not interchange.
You get what you pay for with welders. Good welders have far better transformers, diodes and arc stabilization circuitry.
I have miller, lincoln, hobart and a whole bunch of other off-brand welding machines in my shop and over the years the miller stuff has really held up better. I've rebuilt several miller and lincoln MIG's and the millers are a lot easier to troubleshoot and repair. The old Hobarts are real good machines, but good luck getting parts.

your right average hard to beat an old hobart my dad has an old hobart torpedo ship yard welder 500 amp that is the best welder I have ever used but we don't have 3 phase anymore and it would take to big of a rotophaser I had one of those buzz boxes and upgraded to an old lincoln ac/dc 100% duty cycle machine world of difference
