best way to fill srew holes in body?

Post by drew22 »

My doors are full of hole where mirrors used to be, some of them 3/8" diameter where nutserts were used. I need to fill them for my bodywork. My first thought was to have them welded, but I dont have a welder. Any other good or better ways. Thanks

Here's an idea and only an idea because I haven'ty done it. See if you can clean/sand the back side of the hole down to bare metal and JB weld a patch to the back side. Then spot putty (Bondo) the front side. I used JB weld to fill a small dent on my motorcycle fender before I had them powder coated.

Or you can try fiberglass.

I'd countersink the holes (tap the edge inward a big) and then do small fiberglass patches. I've never been much of a fan of Bondo-type fillers except for very thin applications. There's also products like fiberstrand (both long and very short lengths) from places like NAPA that go on like Bondo but have fiberglass in them for strength. Very easy to apply.
