my carb fountains gas

Post by swschulke »

ok recently i have attempted to re build a 4 barrel holly carb for my 1971 ford f250.

what happens is my truck wont idle or run but gas fountains out the top...hehe
Some one said i need to set the floats all the way back. Does this sound right?
I am presumeing that to set them back i turn to the left...

Sorry if my question is dumb but this is all new to me..
Any ideas or thoughts would be great
Thanks for reading and responding to this message.
thanks.

It does sound like a float adjustment.

You should be able to get specific instructions on Holley.com by serching by your list number, the list number is on the airhorn of the carb and should look something like "3310-10".

There are center hung and side hung floats as well, but just as an example:

http://www.holley.com/data/Products/Tec ... 7948-5.pdf (1850 side hung floats)

http://www.holley.com/data/Products/Tec ... 9934-3.pdf (3310 center hung floats)

http://www.holley.com/TechService/Instructions.asp (main page "S" is "Silver" and "C" is "Chromate")

Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier; I would have been happy to help you adjust the floats! As long as you are referring to the screws that are on the top of the float bowl (that have a locknut below them) the way to adjust them is to loosen the lock nut and turn clockwise to lower the float. Then you run the truck, rev it up a bit, then shut it off. Then you pull the sight plugs on the sides of the bowls and if gas leaks out the floats are too high. Once you get it close you can adjust it while running. The fuel level should be right at the bottom edge of the hole, and it should spill out a tad when you rock the vehicle. If it wasflooding all over then you probably had a problem with the neddle not seating properly. I know it's too late, but now you'll know next time.
