fuel tank install

Post by 69rangerf100 »

i had to replace my cab b/c of serious rust issues. got a 70 cab to replace my 69 cab i noticed that my 69 fuel tank wont bolt un since it uses the 3 bolts were as the 70 cab has the 5 bolts weld to the cab. so i have a 70 gas tank now for the 70 cab. ok here is my question. on the 70 tank there are more tubes that are coming out of of the top of the tank, can anyone shed some light on these extra lines that are on top and tell me how to do the plumbing?

those extra hole are fo rthe fuel tank vent and evaportor canister. if you dont have that stuff it is ok not to use it. you can plug off those holes. but you have to use the filler neck from your 69 tank and a vented gas cap so the tank will still work properly. if you want to hook up all of those extra lines you can do it but you need the parts to do it with. i saved the last two trucks parts from the tank including the evaportor canister and all the lines if you want them.

those are a flare type of fitting. you will need a flare type of plug to put in the holes. a straight pipe plug wont seal against the fitting in the tank and you may end up smelling gas all the time if you dont use the flared pipe plugs.

If you block off those charcoal canister lines, your tank will no longer be vented. You'll then need to use the '69 filler neck and vented gas cap. The vented cap won't fit on the '70-'72 filler neck.

ok i know that this is going to sound like a stupid question, but the filler neck is the metal tube that sticks out of the cab am i correct?
