Custom I-Beams

Post by Ditchdigger »

I'm looking into building a set of 3 1/2" dropped I-beams for a 66. I will need to modify the spindles (knuckles) for the tie rod location, the pitman arm will also need modification, so that the steering linkage will clear the stock radius arms. I'm planning on building jigs for my I-beam welding. I know I can buy dropped beams , but I don't like any that I've seen, mainly because of the tie rod relocators. I have seen a simular type of setup on Ward's Prostreet 66.

Keep us up to date because here in the next few months I plained on getting a set of Drop IBeams to lower my Truck..

I'd rather Help a Fellow Member out before I bought somewhere else.

I have thought about doing the same thing. I don't know why they can't make drop spindles like they do for others.

I have cut and installed my home built custom I-beams this past weekend. It ended up being a 4" drop. How does it look?My Photo Gallery

It looks pretty good from what I can tell. Now you're gonna have to drop the rear height so you don't like a stinkbug runnin' down the road! ;)

So the beams you're using you fabricated yourself?? Have you got some pics of those (closeups) that you could share?

Let us see close ups of the dropped I beams, then get ready to quit your day job. I want a set lowered for an F-250.

I just ran across a tech article over on the H.A.M.B. at the Jalopy Jurnal. They were showing how to heat and drop a model A axle but the principle would be the same. They look real clean and stock but of course they do come together a little in the process. I will see if I can figure out how to make a link.
