Step on the Scale?

Post by 68muscletruck »

Anyone have a ballpark number for what a 67-69 LWB F100 might weigh?

once you start taking the truck apart you kind of wonder where all the weight is at. probably in the 390. the heavy pig.

haha its certainly not in the gas tank these days with prices going up ;) someone would do good to make aftermarket fenders and hoods from aluminum for those of us who have the heart of a muscle car in a truck's body... and so my name, Muscletruck was born ;)

dang that would defeat not only the bank account but the new cosmetic scheme of my truck! maybe i'll just blow the thing and cut a huge chunk of the old steel hood out ;) they're actually not that heavy, just piece by piece it adds up

A 351 windsor weighs 525lbs and a 390 weighs 625lbs, replace the 80lb intake with aluminum intake and the 390 will only weigh 25lbs more than a windsor

So an aluminum intake only weighs 5 pounds??? :hmm: Go with Edelbrock heads, and you'd probably be below a Windsor.

ya not to mention an FE intake is pretty much the widest intake you'll ever see for a light truck big block... I held my old Performer 390 from Edelbrock and a cast intake from a SBC that was half the size, I could walk around with the Edelbrock all day and not get tired, that cast intake even just half the size was so much heavier i couldn't even believe, I can only imagine what the difference in the heads is like

I would guess the FE heads would be a little bit lighter, since part of the "head" is attached to the intake.

the reason i called it a heavy pig was becasue my 68 with a 390 really seems mor eheavy in front than i thought it shoul dfeel when driving it. maybe it has to do withthe rearend gearign or the auto trans. becuase the heavy feeling could also be described as a held back type of feel when you let off a little. itfeel liek thereshould be a more open glide or roll to the truck when moving down the highway.
