If reverse is up toward the dash you have a T-18 Borg-Warner. If it is down toward the seat it is a New Process 435. If you go to this sites tech articles you can find info on both.

hey thanks a lot.
Its the new process 435. Would that hold up to a mild (300-350hp) motor. or do i need something newer and stronger. thanks again for your help

Got any snow in Palmer yet or do you live in a part that the wind blows it all away? Used to have some friends over by the Butte and anything that wasn't tied down would blow away. I also worked on the Palmer-Wasilla Hwy. and it blew like crazy there in the winter. Willow was much better, the wind only blew a few times a year up there. I sure miss it, looks like I will have to mow the lawn when it quits raining.

I don't have many pics of my pick-up. What I have are the ones in the gallery. My computer crashed last Summer and I lost everything I didn't have backed up. One of the days when it ain't raining I will get some more. I live in Washington, so that could be awhile.

What about you? Got a gallery up yet?

Willowbilly (or anyone else) what yr. (approx, I know the change filtered into production trucks over a period of time) did the T-18 change from up for reverse, to down, like the NP-435? I think it was after '72, but not sure. Just curious.

Ok, so since no will answer this for me, I guess I will
From what I can tell they changed the patterns from up to down for rev. in 1979.

Hmm, I sure typed up an answer, not sure what happened to it but here it is again.
I wasn't aware that reverse ever changed on the T-18. Maybe you are reffering to the NP435 tranny that had reverse down. From 68-69 through at least 73 both trannys were used with no real rhyme or reason to which went where. It seems like from 69 all the highboys had the New Process which is about the only standardization I can determine. I have a very late build 72 F-250 ( Aug 72) and it has the T-18 and I have seen 73s with it. I don't recall ever seeing a 74 with a T-18

They did make both types of T-18, as far as the reverse, but I forgot the year they switched, etc...Could have been 79, although I actually was thinking it was earlier than that...79 might be correct tho...I have it down somewhere I think, but would have to look for it. I saw the info , etc, on a website about tranny's, but forgot where... :hmm: Mine is the old style T-18 with the rev forward. MK

I looked into my info, and yep, Comet seems to be right about 79 being ther first year for the rear rev T-18. I show 78 as being the last year for the old style. MK
