Picked up my I-beams today

Post by flyboy2610 »

I dropped off my I-beams at the suspension shop Tuesday afternoon and told them to press out the old kingpins, then I'd clean up the I-beams, paint 'em, and bring them back later to have the new king pins installed,
I picked them up today, and didn't notice until I got home that:
They also pressed out the outer shells for the inboard suspension bushings! :x :x
I called them up, and the guy said "Oh, yeah. The bushing kit comes with those shells."
They better come with those shells, or I will be most unhappy. I had drilled out the old bushings, so all that was there was the shells.
Has anybody else ever gotten new shells with their bushings? All the kits I see in the catalogs say they don't come with those shells.

You're talking about the axle pivot bushings, right? Are you just replacing the bushings with stock rubber replacements? Then yes, they come with both inner and outer sleeves. It's the urethane and polygraphite versions that don't come with outer sleeves. With those you need to leave your old outer sleeve in the I-beam.

Thanks, Keith.
I had wanted to go with polyurethane, but it looks like I'll be going with stock rubber for now.
And taking my I-beams somewhere else next time!

You can still go with the poly bushings. You just have to pick up a couple replacement bushings and go through the process again. Actually, that's exactly what I did. When mine were dropped off, they came back with everything removed too, contrary to my instructions. I had a new pair of regular rubber replacements, so I just gave them to the guy and told him to press them back in and drill them out, leaving the outer shell this time. (I paid a couple bucks extra to have him drill them out, just so I wouldn't have to mess with it...but you could do this at home.)

Yea, that's a thought. It's just the principle of the thing. I'll get it done some how.

It sounds to me that the mistake/error was on their part.
I wouldn't hesitate to bring that fact to whomevers in charge. Tell them that you intended to install polyurethane bushings and hat they should install a set of the stock rubber ones at their expense, drill them out and press fit your own bushings labor free as a customer service.
You should tolerate nothing less my Brother.

I ran into the same problem with the shop pressing out the shells - but, I'm glad they did because one shell ended up being rusted thru, so they inadvertantly did me a favor.
