Front Shocks

Post by thatoneguy »

I am working on cleaning up a '70 F-100 4x4 frame to put my truck onto and I am having a hell of a time finding front shocks for it. I can find rear shocks all day. I can also find front shocks for 2"-4" lift with no problem. Nothing for stock height...does anyone know where I might find some? I have tried all the parts houses I can think of: O'Reilly, Autozone, Pep Boys, Napa, Advance, Rockauto. Or does someone know where I can find tech specs for the stock shocks that I can try to match something that is close?

Probably best bet is to find a Monroe that is close based on length and mounting....

Yeah, they were about as much as what I paid for the new Monroes for the rear. These were the only ones I could find.

Well... ****

This is one aspect of putting the F-100 back on the road that I didn't consider. There really aren't any shocks listed for front shock replacement on a 4wd F-100 are there. I've been digging for the last few hours and come up with zilch when looking for this application. Next time I'm over there working on it I'll have to get the P/N off the shocks installed and what I can find from that.

Based on the Gabriel shock specs listed below (from the link above) I have maybe found an option, but it's not quite a match and not sure how it would work.

Shock Extended Length: 18.79 in.
Shock Collapsed Length: 12.03 in.
Length of Stroke: 6.76 in

Found Bilstein 5125 custom application shock (P/N 33-062518) that looks pretty close, but not sure how valving would compare.

Shock Extended Length: 18.50 in
Shock Collapsed Length: 12.03 in
Length of Stroke: 6.63 in

That particular Bilstein shock is listed being for 59-75 Jeep CJ5 and 60-82 Toyota Land Cruiser, searching those may reveal some more options. Gotta stop searching for now and get some sleep. In the coming weeks/months I will be doing some more research and maybe call some manufacturers to see if they can recommend anything. If I find out anything I'll try to remember to post what I find.

I ended up with Skyjacker H7012 for the front, they are not exact but appear to be close. We'll see how it does when I get it on the road. Had to order different bushings (Skyjacker ES34) so it would fit the 3/4" top mount.
