Ranger Ric a 1972 f250 4x4

Well I think its time to start a new project thread. I purchased this truck from a gentlemen who has owned it since it was a couple years old. At one point in the trucks life it had personalized plates referencing Ranger Ric which was the PO's personal nick name. The name has kinda just stuck with the pickup. So we call it ranger ric now. from what I can tell, the pickup was built in San Jose then shipped down to LA where it was sold and taken to Paramount truck ( alternation shop) where it was outfitted with its winch bumper and winch and rear bumper was braced up and a hitch installed. The original owner apparently was taking a camper and trailer to Mexico quite often as it racked up a whopping 80k miles in a few years. Then the second owner purchased it. At some point a crane apparatus was constructed for the truck utilizing the winch to lift objects. Previous owner used the truck primarily as a cargo carrier to his vacation property and used the crane to help construct his log cabin. I had actually purchased the crane separately several years ago. ( i didnt need another truck, so I made it a point to not take a close look at the truck) well that didnt end up doing much good cause well, I ended up with it. ( thankfully) . Ranger ric is setup the way I always kinda wanted my blue 72 to be that I haul my cabover camper with. three fuel tanks, a/c etc etc. so thats the background. moving forward. I am under way going through the mechanicals and bringing its maintenance up to date as it has been off the road for several years. I have started wet-sanding the body down, the goal there is to bring back what original paint is there and make it presentable, repair a couple old body filler spots and blend in some new color over the repair and let the truck wear its patina with pride then clear coat it. I have already had the carburetor off and tore it down, put a new kit in and measured everything. it was leaking externally while running, familiar story. have had the cluster out and cleaned up, replaced the clear plastic so you could read the gauges again. I had to pause work for a homeowner chore. I needed to get some cut eucalyptus off the hill behind the house so it was a nice excuse to dig the crane out of storage, assemble, and use it once again. so more to come but now y'all have the back story and my intention. besides being dirty and leaking. no other major problems, I did find the choke pull off diaphragm wasn't adjusted within spec. had to mill the cap for the power valve cover. everything else was very serviceable.

Cool Pics Rich! Love the vintage pics of the truck working the most! I like what he did with the license plate and how he added the "IC" after. Looking forward to seeing more of her.

Haha yeah in the front he wrote the IC on the bumper itself. so next to the current newer licence plate there is IC next to it! When I first looked at the truck i thought to myself, what the heck is written on the bumper under the plate?? then he explained it to me. Loved it.

Awesome love this already neat truck with a neat story. Can certainly tell that carb hasn't been off in a while. I don't even know if I have ever seen a brass float in a 2100 that's gotta be old. Love it can't wait to see more!
