Battery Cables - OEM Autolite

Post by F250 390 Ford »

Hello,
I'm looking at replacing my original positive and negative cables, plus the starter cable. The originals are Autolite. I have found some remanufactured Autolite cables that fit mustangs, and look like they would fit my truck, but the Autolite number stamped on them is not the same as my numbers. I have a 1970 F250 360/390ci motor C-6 Auto. Does anyone know where I can get the OEM type Autolite cables, or did Ford change the part number along the line?

The Ford part number would in fact be different, the T in say a C7TZ part number prefix refers to a truck part. Mustangs had their own part number.
Sounds like your one that keeps things all original as am I. I'd like to see your rig.

Google your cable number and see what pops up. eBay or some NOS folks maybe but doubtful you'll find original bump era cables.

and honestly the bump era stuff is pretty thin for the load they are handling.

I Googled that first number, stuff does come up. The oddball thing is newer production trucks (think '70's) used the same cable and as the old stock was used up the new numbers were stamped in place. So unless you are trying to lock your truck's life date to say 1972 you can run newer numbered parts and they're OEM.

It would be like building a retro '78 era disco truck using that era parts. On mine I chose late '90's era so the diamond plate dump bed doesn't seem out of place. I won't run LED's because they aren't era correct.
