Would I be crazy for buying a model T or model A?

Post by Ranchero50 »

Looking to do something similar to this. I don't want a show queen or a true basket case. Just something to build into a WWII era hot rod theme. I ought to go sit in one to see if I'd even fit...

Of course you should build it! 8) Saw a T-bucket hotrod on the road a few weeks back and have friend building one now. He bought it running with a Mopar 396 engine and is modifying it to fit his larger size, extending the cabin and lowering the floor for more depth at the seat. Seeing them on the road I realized and remembered, the driver's forehead is usually above the windshield. So yeah, might want to try it on for size first.

Ive had several Model A's

Currently have a '30 coupe. chopped, souped-up 4cyl flathead, '39 trans with overdrive. '40 brakes, KH bent spokes, etc. not running right now, blew it apart for paint years ago and never got it back together yet.

they are primitive. like driving a tractor on the street. I dont drive them on the freeway or during commuter times. people are dangerous.

You guys are a bad influence... There's a decent little stockish pick up on C-list in Norfolk but he wants too much $$ imho, $4900. Otherwise it's big money for poorly built stuff. The Jay Leno guests coupe video is my ideal build / result.

I've got a souped up 2.8L V6 in a totaled Ranger. Dad has mentioned a few times that it would be fun to build a t-bucket cruiser around it. Personally I think he's right, but we've both got to much other stuff going on. If we did try it, I think we'd have to start with an aftermarket tub that's built a little longer.

I assume it wouldn't have rust holes out there. These things were supposed to made of very high quality metal and don't rust.

They were made with good materials after ww1. but put 70 years on anything and it has every chance to rust like anything else depending on its environment,

This is the cheapest RPU i could find around here, and im actually surprised its this cheap. ( which is bad because now my mind is running......I need self control....)

Just figured I'd post up what I've been up to the past couple months with the bottom half of a model A I bought.
