Power Steering and power / disk brakes

Post by Jimbo »

I have a 69 F-100 can I use power steering and power / disk brakes from a F200 / F-250 ? The only thing I am running across in wrecking yards are the F 200/ F250 That have power units that I need for my truck. Thanks for any info that you can pass along.

The power brake booster is the same between F100s and F250s.

...and yes, you can bolt an F250 disc brake setup to your truck...but you're going to end up with 8-lug rotors, which obviously means you'd have to buy a pair of 8-lug rims for the front, and then either carry two spare tires (an 8-lug for the front and a 5-lug for the rear) or swap the F250 rearend into your truck too, so that the front and rear will match.

Needless to say, it would end up being a hassle either way. I'd highly suggest just keeping your eyes open for an F100/F150 with the 5-lug setup to use.

Not sure about the 4wd trucks, but the 2wd trucks can use the F100 power steering gears from the mid-late `70's trucks, as well as the parts for the power disk brakes.

There's a good write-up in the tech tutorials here about power steering conversion.

And another for the brakes.

Not 100% sure, but here it goes. 1967 F100's either had manual or power steering via a Bendix power steering unit. 1968 to 1977? had the Ford style power unit. These are not interchangable due to differences in the steering column length/mounting points. If you convert to power, don't be suprised if you have to switch steering columns.
