steering column rebuild

Post by dotcentral »

I thought there was a tech article on rebuilding a steering column. Am I missing it, is it under a different name?

I have an auto column, no shaft, no turn signal arm, no shifter arm. Probably be better off finding one complete, but was curious what it would take to get it up to snuff.

Well, I don't have one per-se on rebuilding, but there is a semi-tutorial on what would be necessary to shorten a manual-steering column so it could be used with a Saginaw box. There are lots of close-up pictures for the visual:

Ok, so one question. Just which parts store did you find those electrical connector tools at? I'm a natural born tool hound, always looking for new tools where ever I go, and I've never seen anything like them anywhere? :?

Might just have to send you some cash and a "stamped envelope" ! :D

I just went to my local auto store, and they had those in the electrical section, next to all the various wires and connectors.

I just used a long set of needle nose pliers to squeeze the pins.

Worked for me.
