71 f250 4x4 360 11 clutch

Post by 25C 70 »

I have a 71 F250 custom 4x4 stepside with the 360 engine. I need to know what clutch kit number to buy. I think the clutch is original. Truck has 18,000 miles, was owned by local fire dept. and used as a brush truck. Clutch is 11 inch with a three finger pressure plate and a recessed flywheel. I also need to know if and how this recessed flywheel can be resurfaced. Thanks.

Have you looked at NPD (National Parts Depot)? Here is a link to their clutch section. Maybe give them a call.

I was looking for a reasonably priced stock replacement, nothing fancy. I would like to know if the recessed flywheel can be resurfaced be any automotive machine shop or if it require a special process.

Have you checked at NAPA? They have a clutch set that is 10 15/16ths in size that says it fits a 1971 F250 with a 360 engine it is part number:
NCF 1107027 Give them a call, my local NAPA has a machine shop as well, I would check with a machine shop about the flywheel.

That Napa clutch 1107027, which says it is for my application, has a diapham type pressure plate where mine is a 3 fingure type. The 1107027 may indeed be a direct replacement. My main concern is getting the correct one for the recessed flywheel. I think the distance the plate surface sets in the plate housing would be shallower (more toward the flywheel) for a recessed flywheel than a unit built for a flat flywheel. None of the clutch sets I have found states the type of flywheel they are used with. Thanks.

The three finger pressure plate is supposed to have a little more clamping power but a little harder on the left knee as well, the diaphragm style is easier to work. I am unfamiliar with the recessed flywheel you mention. I did the 11' clutch in my pickup but it was a flat flywheel.
