Disc Brake Hardware Kit Items

Post by obnxs250 »

I have a '71 F250 that I'm replacing the brakes on. It has the factory front discs and I ordered the hardware kit but I have a couple questions about two of the items:
  • The item circled in blue, does that need any lubrication before the caliper bolt goes in?

The item circled in orange, where does that go? I've not seen something like that in a hardware kit. I noticed that there used to be a rubber bushing on the back side of the caliper mounting bracket opposite the little metal basket, but this piece doesn't fit there. Or is that metal sleeve for a different model and I need to take the rubber out and insert it into the caliper bracket?

Did you get your brakes figured out? My truck is a 1972 F250 that has a little different set up on it as far as the kit is concerned. Not sure if any of these threads and schematics will help, but here is some information on the F250 disk brakes. You might consider purchasing a 1971 Ford truck shop manual on disc, they have them on ebay.

This appears to be an issue on a 1970 F250 from the signature:

This is on a 1972 F250:

This is the diagram of the F250 up until M800001 (which was changed in Oct of 1971):

Here is the set up after M800001 in 1972:
