FE Oil pans

Post by William F »

I have a 67' F100 2wd with a 390 in it, but it has a rear sump pan which is for 4x4s. I plan on pulling the engine this winter to re gasket the engine. So I also decided to get the proper front sump oil pan and dipstick since my rear sump hits the steering linkage.

I bought a front sump FE pan, dipstick, and oil filter mount off of a Facebook group, I should have asked for pictures of the pan when I purchased it, because the pan looks different. I always thought front sump pans had the oil drain off to one side, but mine is closer to the middle.

My question is, is this an FE oil pan, and will it work with a 390 in a 2wd F100? Also what vehicle does this pan normally work with because like I said I've never seen one like this before.

I can eventually clean it off so I can look for a part number stamped into it.

I’m no expert but I’m guessing your 390 has been swapped from a 4x4. I have an f250 4x4 1972 and it uses the same rear sump pan but it has a baffle that yours is missing. I’m guessing you have a rear sump pickup tube. If you change that out hold onto it because I believe they are a desirable item.

The rear sump allows the pan to clear the cross member. You could probably weld in a baffle plate if you’re using yours.

The bolt pattern definitely looks FE. Perhaps an old car pan, or old aftermarket?

It should work fine, assuming the oil won't drain into the crossmember and make a mess.

I have an original 68 truck pan, PM me if you need it
