A new journey, and I'm glad to be back!

Post by LeoZelig »

Howdy everyone!

It's been a long absence for me (almost 10 years!), and I'm back... and happy to see this place is still thriving!

Ten years ago, I changed jobs and spent 75% of my life living out of a suitcase. When I did get home the other 25% of the time, my wife and family needed me with them and not out in the garage. So the Eagle (my 69 F100 in Lunar Green) sat languishing for a couple of years, and it broke my heart, but I sold it. The gentleman got it back on the road, which is where a truck belongs, so it really was a bittersweet feeling.

Fast forward 10 years, and I moved to a job that keeps me at home. And the itch was back :-).

Last month we found a 69 F100 in rough shape but with some decent potential, and in the price range we were willing to pay (my how these trucks have appreciated in the last 10 years!). He told us it would run and drive, but when we got there it wouldn't demonstrate the three things we needed to see - run, drive, and stop. I guess the old truck was bashful and suffering from stage fright. The seller was most embarrassed, but we could see the potential. I offered to take it off his hands for a modest discount from the selling price, and he said he'd prefer to fix the problems and sell at the original price. Fair enough! We made an elbow-rub agreement with the fellow (no handshakes right now  ) that if he could demonstrate run, drive, and stop, we'd pay the full asking price.

A month later and he delivered our newest family member. He's a 1969 F100 with a 360, 3-on-the-floor, and was originally sold right here in the Atlanta area. :woohoo:

There's a ton of potential... and plenty of work to be done. So I'll be darkening the doorway of Fordification again on a regular basis. I hope I can give help and receive it, but I'm still a rank amateur, so I imagine the balance lean on the receive end  .

Thank y'all for being so welcoming, and for keeping the home fires burning.

Take care,

Chris

Hi Jeff, and thanks for the welcome back!

The way Atlanta and Chattanooga are growing, your brother and I may be nearly neighbors before long, when they merge into the Atla-nooga metroplex (Chatta-lanta?) :-D

I hope the right truck finds its way to you, soon, too. It's kind of like a good dog - they pick you.

By the way, the forum archive here is amazing! I've already answered two questions by using the search function. So I may not be posting much, but I'm here.

Thanks two-bit! I'm glad to hear the heart of Fordification is still beating, powered by good folks.

Maybe I can liven up the forums a bit :) . I'm sure I'll have questions the deeper I dive into our new project.

"The way Atlanta and Chattanooga are growing, your brother and I may be nearly neighbors before long, when they merge into the Atla-nooga metroplex (Chatta-lanta?)"

I flipped my Nooga' home two years ago. Had i waited it was adjacent to the proposed high speed rail hub by the Chattanooga airport, (the rail will make the trip from Hotlanta to Nooga' in 45 minutes versus 3 hrs drive time). I probably would've "reaped" a lot...more from the sale had i waited 2-4 years?

Naw...it was time for me to "exit stage left" from my hometown as one million people in a 20 sq mile area just aint' my way of living!
Keep us up to speed on the build, (even those of us who are "bumpless" still really enjoy seeing all here keeping them on the road!
And believe me my neck still snaps when a see a bump cruising down the road LOL! :drive:

Yeah, my crystal ball is still in the shop, too

I hear ya, my wife and I would spot a bump rusting away in a field from a mile away!
