Boot for driveshaft slip joint 1970 F250?

Hey everyone, thanks in advance for all your help. I am in the middle of doing a bunch of different things on my truck, one of which was rebuilding my C6 automatic. In the process, I obviously needed to drop my driveshaft, and now I am putting everything back together again. The driveshaft did not have a boot on it right after the carrier bearing at the slip joint. I’ve seen a bunch of stuff saying that there should be a boot there, but I actually haven’t found anything like that for the 1970. In my service manuals it actually does not show a boot there, but it makes sense to have one to protect the slip joint. Just wanted to see if anyone knew of the actual part that I need to get to make sure I get the right size boot, if there is even supposed to be one there in the first place. I've never seen one on a bump truck before, (even on my early Bronco it never came with a boot there). :hmm:

I have never seen a boot before on that slip joint either. You could install one if you like.
Personally, i like the idea of drilling and tapping the yoke end of the slip with a grease zerk, and giving it a shot or two every oil change. Work great on Kenworths pulling 80 K, figured it couldn't hurt my bumpside !

I would talk to a drive line specialist and get their opinion. I have never seen a boot on the slip joint either but like two-bit said a grease zerk works just fine. When I first read this I thought a boot like is on the drive axles on cars might be an idea but then thought how would you attach it and also the driveshafts can reach a fairly good speed and these axle boots would just fly apart. Just clean it up good and especially the threads for the collar, slide it together, turn the collar back on but not overly tight and give it about 5 or 6 shots of grease then like two-bit suggested a shot or two at oil changes you should be set. And correct me if I'm wrong but these driveshafts are pre-indexed so they only go together one way and cannot be set 90 degrees off. :thup:

Thanks for your help guys, I think I’m gonna leave it off for now, since I can’t find any evidence of there ever having been one on there in the first place. I appreciate your help!
