rebuilding carb( autolite 2100) stripped screw, heat choke, general wisdom

Post by sharkdog »

Am about to tackle rebuilding my carb for my 70 f100 360 c6 2wd. before I took the carb of I replaced the accelerator pump unfortunately I stripped the bottom right bolt just wondering the best solution to fix this? drill and tap? some sort of insert? guy at my work even said jb weld? also i'v come to find out the choke is not electric but heat activated of course I finally figured out the pipes to the manifold were rusted off. I'v read that you have to take the manifold off to drill out the old bits, is this even nessasarry? and can you buy direct fit replacement parts or do I have to use a generic one like I saw from doorman. Also how does it insert in the manifold do i have to crimp or screw or do i just jam it in?
thanks

Pete

P.S any other tips/tricks for rebuilding my carb as this is the first time for me.

You stripped the head and can't get it out ? or you stripped the threads?
You should be able to drill and tap one screw size bigger even if you go metric.
if it's the head try a left hand drill bit in a reversible drill .
You can get an electric choke to replace the heat spring.

:yt:

And the hole in the exhaust manifold doesn't go all the way into the exhaust porting, (it just picks up heat from the metal of the manifold) so no worries about drilling it to get a new piece of steel tubing slid into it.

Thanks for the info makes drilling into my manifold less scary. And it looks like I haven’t striped the bolts on my accelerator pump
Cover, it’s a lot easier to get them tight with the cover off lol
