Article 2051 - Brake Booster Noise or Vehicle Vibration Upon Brake Application

TSB #131 - January 16, 1970
(1970 Ford Station Wagon and Police Units Built Prior to 12/15/69)

A noise in the brake booster or a front end vibration during brake application may be traced to the Bendix tandem power brake booster assembly installed on the subject vehicle.

Before changing the master cylinder or attempting to adjust the booster push rod, apply the pedal and then release with a maximum upward force of 30 pounds to determine if a rubbing noise is evident or if the pedal does not release completely. The suspect booster can be identified by not having any paint identification dots or one or two dots of white or blue paint. Replace the suspect booster with a new assembly identified by a green paint daub. Check correct operation of the booster with the engine operating at idle speed.
