Article 109 - Rear Axle "Chuckle" Noise

When removal and disassembly of the differential case is required to correct a "chuckle" noise, the differential case bore must be visually inspected for excessive wear. If the side gear hubs are phosphate coated (a dull black finish), they must be replaced with side gears having non-phosphate coated hubs (silver in color and relatively glossy).

NOTE: This procedure must be followed to prevent potential repeat failures.

OPERATION: 4010-A plus A1 (Integral Carrier) 4200-A plus A1 (Removal Carrier)
TIME: Refer to the Service Labor Time Standards Manual for appropriate times.
