Article 113 - Hood Latch Pop-Up Spring - Breaks

TSB #11 - February 11, 1972
(1972 - Torino [Hi-Series] and Thunderbird; Lincoln, Montego and Mark IV)

The hood latch pop-up spring on the subject vehicles may break, making it difficult to open the hood. Removal and installation of the hood latch pop-up spring is outlined below and shown in Fig. 1:
    1. Open the hood and inspect the surrounding area for the broken portion of the hood latch pop-up spring.
    2. If the broken portion of the hood latch pop-up spring is found, remove the remaining portion and install a new spring.
    3. If the broken portion of the pop-up spring is not found, raise the hood up and down rapidly. This will determine if the broken spring portion is lodged at the rear of the hood.
    4. If the broken spring portion is determined to be lodged at the rear of the hood, scribe the hood hinge locations and remove the hood.
    5. With an assistant, tilt the forward edge of the hood down and remove the broken spring.
    6. Install new hood latch pop-up spring.
