Ford 360 2V vs 4V

Post by KulpFarm »

Hello,

This maybe a dumb question but what are the differences between 2V and 4V 360 engine.
Is it he obvious or the 2 vs 4 barrel carb as well as the manifold or are there deeper differences. Have a chance to purchase a 360 4V as a backup.

The "V" stands for venturi, which basically is the difference between a two barrel and four barrel carb. In all my years of messing with Fords I do not believe Ford ever offered a 360-4V engine, they were all two barrels as far as I know. If it is a factory manifold on a confirmed 360, it is most likely from a 390 that someone swapped out, so if that is the case look at the differences between a 2v and 4v 390 manifolds.

The Holley 600 cfm 4v is a nice fit for the FE's in a truck :2cents:

But...

If you have an old stock 360 ,And planned on a stock cast iron 4 bbl (4V) intake,
you would be money ahead to put a Holley 500 cfm 2 bbl (2V)on your stock intake.
Your engine probably wouldn't know the difference. :2cents:

Jeeesh I sound like my dad . " why dont you leave the two barrel on it " .

My Dad was a life long mechanic and had no love for Holleys (for whatever reason.)
He liked a nice Autolite 2bbl or a Rochester.

Ford never offered a 360 with a 4 barrel carb

Check the crank numbers to verify what you are buying

Thank you for the help!

I had enough trouble convincing the guy to allow me to pull valve covers off I doubt he would want me removing the crank or oil pan.
Maybe I should pass on this motor for $300 plus it was stated that it was a jasper motor with unknown mileage

tnlprt,

I have a 4BBL input Ford manifold (currently an "S" manifold in the truck, but I have a "T" manifold for the rebuild. Are both of these from 390 engines? These are definitely Ford iron manifolds.
