gear shift lever on automatic

found a 1972 ford ranger in a ladies back yard, she said it jumped out of gear and she parked it, i bought it and brought it home, gear shift is not hooked up at bottom of steering column, can i get pictures or advice on how to fix

I'm not exactly sure how the column end of the shifter is hooked up on a '72. Does the lower end have a slotted lever on it? I know they changed sometime, but not sure when.

the rod or rods snap into a plastic keeper in the column arm.
