1977-1978 FORD TRUCK/BRONCO POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Build Years/Makes/Models: 1978 F150
1977-1978 F250
1978 Bronco
Units affected: 61417
Recall Number: 78V096000
Owner Notification Date: June 20, 1978
Recall Creation Date: October 12, 1979
Component Description: Power Train: Automatic Transmission
Manufacturer Involved in This Recall: Ford Motor Company
Manufacturer Responsible for This Recall: Ford Motor Company
Report Received Date: April 28, 1978
Summary: Some of these vehicles may be equipped with automatic transmissions that were assembled with improperly manufactured cast iron extension housings. The housings have mislocated cast cam plate stops. A mislocated stop may prevent the transmission from locking in the park position when the gear shift selector lever is placed in the "P" (park) position. If this occurs a driver may rely upon the reading on the gearshift selector lever indicator and may assume that the transmission parking gear is engaged.
Consequence: If the parking brake is not engaged and the vehicle is left unattended while still in gear, it could roll free, causing injury and damage to persons and property.
Remedy: Dealer will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transmission extension housing without charge to owner.

Note:
Vehicle description: Light trucks equipped with C-6 automatic transmission.
